Proposal for the axel springer media campus
Team: Kazarli Eleni, Poulia Iliana, Varsami Maria
During the design studio of the 9th semester, we simulated the international competition for the new Media Campus of Axel Springer SE. With some adjustments to the original requirements to fit the needs of a semester course, we were called to re-imagine the Media Campus.
The split history of the lot, being divided by the Berlin wall, became a focus point of our design. By inverting the meaning of a wall, we created a large negative space on the traces of the Berlin wall. We carefully guided the lighting in the building by incorporating gaps spanning multiple stories.
The first two levels focus on complementary rooms to the working spaces, e.g. cafeterias, printing areas and multipurpose rooms. A pair of co-working spaces in the 2nd and the last level build a collaborative framework for the office floors on the 3rd up to the 6th level.
